Montreal’s Canada Malting plant to be partially dismantled over collapse concerns

Parts of the historic Canada Malting plant in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough are set to be dismantled beginning Monday, after an engineering report warned that the deteriorating structure poses an imminent risk to public safety.

The decision follows a report released earlier this month that identified serious structural concerns at the former industrial site, describing the building as an “imminent danger” to the public.

The Canada Malting plant is a prominent former industrial site in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough.

The owners have also indicated that significant redevelopment plans are envisioned for the site once the plant has been demolished.

The start of dismantling work marks a significant step in addressing the building’s reported structural hazards while potentially paving the way for a new chapter for the long-standing industrial property.
