On October 5, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Ottawa hosted a reception at The Westin Ottawa marking the launch of the Fall 2026 edition of Diplomat International Canada Magazine, in partnership with the magazine’s Publisher and CEO, Mr. Abdel Karim Awwad.
The evening was hosted by H.E. Ambassador Tariq Ali Faraj Al-Ansari and welcomed The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, as Guest of Honour and the edition’s cover feature.

In his remarks, H.E. Ambassador Al-Ansari paid particular tribute to Minister Anand’s leadership and tireless work in advancing Canada’s international engagement, describing her as a central figure in Canada’s evolving diplomacy. He also reflected on the growing momentum in Qatar-Canada relations, the importance of trust and long-term relationship-building, and the role of diplomacy in creating lasting bridges between countries.

H.E. Ambassador Al-Ansari also highlighted his contribution to the Fall 2026 edition, which focuses on sports diplomacy and the shared connection between FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™️ and FIFA World Cup 2026™️, to be co-hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico.

In her speech , The Honourable Anita Anand, Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized Canada’s commitment to diversifying its trade partnerships, building new strategic relationships, and advancing Canada’s interests and objectives internationally.

Minister Anand highlighted the importance of broadening Canada’s global reach and strengthening relationships that can create new opportunities while supporting the country’s priorities in an evolving geopolitical landscape.
A special moment of the evening was the presentation by H.E. Ambassador Al-Ansari to Minister Anand of a commemorative football from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™️, symbolizing the enduring connection between Qatar and Canada through sport and international cooperation.
The ceremony was moderated by Yasmeen Almuhtaseb, Diplomatic Affairs and Public Diplomacy Officer who guided guests through the program.
The reception brought together ambassadors, parliamentarians, officials from Global Affairs Canada, members of the media, representatives from academia, business leaders, and other distinguished guests.
