Canada’s Leylah Fernandez captured her first title of the season with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Australia’s Talia Gibson in the women’s singles final at the Singapore Tennis Open on Sunday.
The Laval, Que., native won the last nine games to secure the win in one hour 38 minutes. Fernandez dropped only one set across her five matches in the tournament.
Fernandez had five aces and won 6 of 12 available break points. She made quick work of the second set, winning 81.8 per cent of her first serve points.

Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que. captured the Singapore open title Sunday defeating Talia Gibson of Australia 7-5, 6-0.
Fernandez, the world No. 31, came into the WTA 500 tournament seeded sixth and dispatched top seed Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals to advance.
It marks the sixth career title for Fernandez, whose last triumph came at the Japan Women’s Open last October. All of her titles have been earned in hard-court tournaments.
Fernandez improved to 6-3 in final appearances and now has two WTA 500 titles, having previously won the D.C. Open in July 2025.
