“Sahriyeh” A Timeless Classic Returns to the Stage

The iconic musical comedy “Sahriyeh”, written by the renowned Lebanese playwright and composer Ziad Rahbani, returns to the stage in a vibrant local production that revives one of the most beloved works of modern Lebanese theatre.

Written when Rahbani was only 17 years old, Sahriyeh marked the beginning of an extraordinary artistic journey. The play would later become a cultural milestone, shaping generations through its sharp humor, musical richness, and profound social commentary. Decades later, its themes continue to resonate strongly with audiences both in Lebanon and across the diaspora.

This new staging places emphasis not on grand theatrical spectacle or technical perfection, but rather on the sincerity and dedication of the community members who brought the production to life. Volunteers generously devoted their time and energy, setting aside personal and professional obligations to create an evening that evokes laughter, nostalgia, and reflection particularly for those living far from their homeland.

The audience was treated to a range of promising voices and emerging talents. While some performances naturally revealed room for growth, what stood out most was the spirit of commitment and passion displayed on stage. With continued guidance and encouragement, these artists hold great potential to flourish and further enrich the cultural scene of the Lebanese diaspora.

Beyond entertainment, the revival of Sahriyeh carries a powerful message of cultural continuity. It reminds audiences that artistic heritage remains alive when nurtured with care, love, and collective commitment. One cannot help but imagine that Rahbani himself would take comfort in knowing that his work continues to inspire new generations — not only through technical excellence, but through authenticity and heartfelt expression.

The production is presented by the RITM Group, under the direction of Marie-Thérèse Salhab, in partnership with the organization New Dimension of the Universe, which proudly supports initiatives that reconnect younger generations living abroad with their cultural roots.

Art, after all, is a universal language one that transcends borders and brings communities together, allowing culture to shine both within and beyond its homeland.

Bravo to the entire team for their dedication and passion, and special recognition to director Marie-Thérèse Salhab for guiding this meaningful revival with vision and heart.
