The Libyan Ramadan series Mostaqbal Zaher is topping the trends in North Africa and the Maghreb, receiving widespread critical and audience acclaim. It has been described as the largest production in the history of Libyan drama.
Directed and written by Nizar Al-Harari, the series explores Libya’s current realities and envisions its future. Entirely filmed in Misrata and other Libyan locations, the production involved Arab technical teams, particularly from Tunisia. The soundtrack was composed by Hamza Bouchnak, son of the renowned Tunisian artist Lotfi Bouchnak.
Mostaqbal Zaher follows the story of a child named Zaher, posing the question: Does he truly have a bright future? This metaphorically reflects Libya’s own fate amid its present circumstances.
The series stars Abdel Sayed Adam, Huda Abdel Latif, Basma Al-Atrash, Ibrahim Khairallah, Najlaa Al-Amin, Saeed Al-Mahdi, Aseel Makhlouf, Faraj Abdel Karim, Ayman Al-Shaatani, Nourhan Ashraf, Lotfiya Ibrahim, and the young actor Shaaban Ibrahim.
Director Nizar Al-Harari described the project as a major undertaking that took three years to complete. He stated, “The series raises crucial questions and sheds light on history and the future. We ask bold and sharp questions about the education system, justice, and the legacy we will leave for future generations.”
He added, “The story revolves around a child named Zaher, whose future symbolizes Libya’s own destiny. The title itself poses the key question: ‘Does Libya truly have a bright future?’”
The 15-episode series blends social drama with suspense and intrigue, making it one of the most talked-about productions this Ramadan.
